How old are you exactly, down to the day, and how old are you in Hijri years? Enter a date of birth in the Gregorian or the Hijri calendar and, if you like, a different “age on” date. The calculator shows your age in both calendars, the total days and weeks lived, and the date of your next birthday in each calendar.
Someone born on 15 March 1990 (17 Shaban 1410 AH) is 36 years, 7 months and 8 days old on 23 October 2026, which is 37 Hijri years and 8 months. A Hijri year is about 354 days, so Hijri age runs ahead by roughly one year every 33 years.

How to use the Age calculator
- Choose the calendar of the birth date. For Hijri, pick the day, month and year (AH).
- Leave the “age on” date empty to use today, or choose any Gregorian date.
- Press Calculate to see your age in Gregorian and Hijri years, total days and weeks, and your next birthday in both calendars.
The formula
Age sounds simple, but months have different lengths and the Hijri calendar runs on a different clock. The calculator counts whole years first, then whole months, then the days left over. When the day count goes negative it borrows the length of the month just before the “age on” date, which is how most people count age by hand. People born on 29 February have their birthday counted on 1 March in years that are not leap years.
Worked example
Born 15 March 1990, age on 23 October 2026: 36 full years reach 15 March 2026, 7 full months reach 15 October 2026, and 8 more days reach 23 October. Age = 36 years, 7 months, 8 days, or 13,371 days. In the Umm al-Qura calendar the same birth date is 17 Shaban 1410 AH and 23 October 2026 is 12 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH, so the Hijri age is 37 Hijri years and 8 months.
Why Hijri age is higher
The Hijri (Islamic) calendar is lunar. Its twelve months follow the moon and last 29 or 30 days, so a Hijri year is about 354 or 355 days, roughly 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year. Those 11 days add up. After about 33 Gregorian years, a person has lived about 34 Hijri years. A 60-year-old in Gregorian terms is close to 62 in Hijri years. This matters in Saudi Arabia, where some official ages and dates have historically been counted in the Hijri calendar, and for anyone who simply wants to know their Hijri birthday.
Which Hijri calendar does it use?
Hijri dates here come from the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia, through the calendar data built into your web browser. That data covers 1937 to 2076 (about 1356 to 1500 AH). Religious dates such as the start of Ramadan can be set by moon sighting and may differ by a day from the calculated calendar, so a Hijri birthday can occasionally fall a day earlier or later than shown. If your browser does not support the Umm al-Qura calendar, the calculator still gives your Gregorian age and tells you the Hijri part is unavailable.
Entering a Hijri birth date
Many people in the Gulf have a Hijri date of birth on older documents. Choose Hijri as the calendar, then pick the day, month and year. The calculator converts it to the Gregorian date first and shows both. If the day does not exist (for example 30 in a 29-day month), it tells you how many days that month had. To convert a date without working out an age, use our Hijri to Gregorian date converter.
Total days and next birthday
Total days count the days between the two dates, not including the birth day itself, which is why another site can differ by one. The next birthday is shown in both calendars. Because the Hijri year is shorter, your Hijri birthday moves about 11 days earlier in the Gregorian calendar each year.
FAQ
How do I calculate my age in Hijri years?
Convert your birth date and today’s date to the Hijri calendar, then count full Hijri years and months between them. The calculator does this with the Umm al-Qura calendar.
Why is my age in Hijri years more than my normal age?
A Hijri year is about 354 days, 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year, so you complete Hijri years faster. The gap grows by about one year every 33 years.
Can I enter a Hijri date of birth?
Yes. Choose Hijri as the birth date calendar and pick the day, month and year in AH, from 1356 to 1500.
Does it count leap years?
Yes. Day totals use the real Gregorian calendar including every 29 February, and Hijri months use their real 29 or 30 day lengths.
Does the calculator store my date of birth?
No. Everything is worked out in your browser and nothing is sent or saved.
