Work out your grade point average from letter grades and credit hours. Choose the US 4.0 scale or the 5.0 scale used by many universities in Saudi Arabia, fill in up to six courses and get a credit-weighted GPA.
GPA = sum of (grade points × credit hours) ÷ total credit hours. On the 4.0 scale an A (3 credits) and a B (3 credits) give (12 + 9) ÷ 6 = 3.50. On the 5.0 scale an A+ (3 credits) and a B (3 credits) give (15 + 12) ÷ 6 = 4.50.

The formula
Each grade is converted to points and weighted by the course's credit hours, so a 4-credit course counts more than a 2-credit one. The 5.0 table is the one most Saudi universities publish; your own university's regulations always take priority.
Worked example
On the 5.0 scale: A+ in a 3-credit course (15 points), B in a 3-credit course (12 points) and C+ in a 2-credit course (7 points). Total = 34 points over 8 credits, so GPA = 4.25.
FAQ
Does an A+ count more than an A on the 4.0 scale?
At most US colleges an A+ is capped at 4.0. Some schools use 4.3; check your handbook.
Why is F worth 1 on the 5.0 scale?
Under the grading tables used by many Saudi universities, the lowest grade carries 1 point rather than 0. Credits with F still count in the GPA.
Can I convert a 5.0 GPA to 4.0?
There is no official one-to-one conversion. Universities and employers usually ask for your transcript and their own evaluation.
